Edinburg, Tx. – Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley celebrated a momentous occasion today as H-E-B announced a $1 million gift to the hospital. The donation will fund advanced medical equipment for the hospital’s rehabilitation program, enhancing the hospital’s ability to provide cutting-edge therapies and support for children recovering from injuries, illnesses, and surgeries.
The announcement was made during a special ceremony near the hospital’s lobby, where the space was officially renamed the H-E-B Lobby in recognition of the company’s generosity.
“H-E-B’s $1 million donation will directly translate into better care for sick children in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Matt Wolthoff, President of Driscoll Children’s Hospital Rio Grande Valley. “This gift will significantly enhance our services, ensuring children have access to life-changing treatments right here in their community.”
“H-E-B has always been committed to supporting the communities we serve, and today, we are proud to stand with Driscoll Children’s Hospital in this important mission,” said Leah Luedeker, H-E-B Vice President and General Manager for the Border Region.
“Many Texas families face challenges around child healthcare, and H-E-B is deeply committed to help provide communities better access to life-changing opportunities,” said Linda Tovar, H-E-B Director of Public Affairs. “H-E-B is a long-time supporter of Driscoll Children’s Hospital, and we hope our gift and continued partnership will strengthen availability to personalized medical treatments and cutting-edge technologies for our children in the Rio Grande Valley and surrounding areas in need.”
The ceremony culminated in the presentation of a commemorative $1 million check. Community leaders, hospital staff, and members of the public gathered to celebrate the transformative partnership. The gift celebration comes eight months after the hospital’s opening on May 8, marking a $100 million investment in the Rio Grande Valley and the region’s first freestanding designated children’s hospital. The hospital features 119 beds and offers over 30 pediatric medical and surgical specialties.
